Email Victim Assistance Program

The Omaha-Douglas County Victim Assistance Program is a public service office established to assist victims of crime, including domestic violence.

The Program became operational in December 1997, and functions under the Douglas County Attorney's Office. This was made possible by a grant from the Nebraska Crime Commission, which called for the merger of the Omaha Police Department Crime Victim Assistance Unit and the Douglas County Attorney Victim/Witness Program.

The Program's location, close to the Courthouse and the Police Station establishes an efficient system of assistance between victim, community, and the criminal justice system.

It is the goal of the combined agencies to coordinate and collaborate assisting the victim throughout the entire case in order to prevent any further victimization, to reduce the trauma of the crime experience and to aid in the rebuilding of the victim to a state of well-being.  In addition, our hope is to improve the attitude of the victim/witness, and the community in general toward the criminal justice system.

Volunteer Opportunity

The Victim Assistance Program is always looking for responsible volunteers who would like to help in the many areas the Victim Assistance serves. If interested in volunteering, please contact us at 402-444-4597.
